This is the first printing of the first official "Handbook for Boys" that was endorsed by the Boy Scouts of America’s National Council. Preceding it’s release a limited "Proof" edition was distributed to educators, members of the National Council and other distinguished individuals to ensure the content of the book was acceptable within the scouting community. The two books have identical olive drab linen fabric covers that feature an illustration by Gordon Grant, of a Scout in front of a campsite waving a campaign hat. This is olive green version is one of one of four first edition color variations.
