1914 Handbook for Boys
Item Description
The second edition was the first version of the Boy Scout Handbook to incorporate a full color image into the cover. The image pictured in this version is a painting by J. C. Leyendecker of a scout signaling in semaphore (foreground) and one looking through a pair of binculars (background). Originally a Saturday Evening Post magazine cover (donated to the Boy Scouts) the painting showed Scouts using Morse code flags to send a non-existent semaphore letter. This mistake was eventually corrected by BSA artists in later editions.
